Window Condensation

Window Condensation – Is It Normal?

Did you know that window condensation on the interior surface of your windows is a NORMAL occurrence? Many people have new windows installed and notice this natural condensation for the first time (usually during the first cool months of fall and winter) and immediately think the window is defective. But, in fact, what is happening is the moisture in the air in the home is being trapped in because of the superior efficiency of the new windows instead of leaking out around the old drafty windows.

When it is cold out, and there is moisture in the air inside, that moisture tends to collect on the cooler surface of the window glass causing condensation. Moisture in the air comes from many sources, mainly from the moist air from the humid warmer months of the year, fish tanks, showers running, cooking, humidifiers, etc.. This moisture gets into furniture, woodwork, carpeting, curtains and other upholstery  As the home starts to “dry out” in the fall and winter months, there will be less condensation or nearly none at all. There is a lot of information on the internet that can explain this in more detail, but in short, condensation is a normal natural occurrence! Basement Windows Save Energy

Replacing Basement Windows – Is it Worth the Investment?

Basement windows are an important consideration when exploring ways to increase your home’s energy efficiency. Here is why: Most homes have their heating systems in the basement. When you run your furnace or boiler for heat, it has to work harder (using more energy) to maintain its temperature when your basement is cold, and those old out dated, inefficient, drafty  basement windows are the main cause for that cold environment.

The heat generated by your heating system is escaping through and around those windows leaving your furnace or boiler working harder and using as much as 20% more energy. By replacing those old metal frame, single pane, clear glass, energy robbing windows with new high efficiency, vinyl replacement windows you can increase your comfort and save lots of money! So consider having Pellerin Siding replace those drafty basement windows to save money on heating costs and keep your home warm and comfortable.

Vinyl Siding – Can you install it in the winter?

Vinyl Siding Installation – Can siding be installed during the winter?

People often wonder if vinyl siding can be properly installed during the winter? Well…yes it CAN! With proper knowledge and experience, vinyl siding can be installed with temperatures as low as 25 degrees and as high as 95 degrees. Because vinyl siding panels expand in the warmer months, and contract in the colder months, installation needs to be done according to certain specifications. Experienced installers are trained with the proper techniques to install panels any time of the year to allow movement (expansion and contraction) and prevent buckling and warping. Winter is a good time to get the job done for a few reasons:

  • Manufacturer price increases on vinyl products usually happen in the spring, making winter a good time to do a project before costs go up.

  • Winter is usually a slower time for home improvement contractors. This allows for more time and attention to detail to be spent on a job without a deadline to start another job.

  • Having the job done and completed during the winter leaves the spring and summer months open for other projects that can't be done in the winter such as landscaping.

If you're considering having your vinyl siding replaced before the spring, call us today at (603) 898-2259.
